Palacio

Majestic, historic, and surprisingly quiet.

Overview

Palacio encompasses the Royal Palace and the historic 'Madrid de los Austrias.' It is arguably the most beautiful part of the city, with wide stone plazas and grand architecture. Unlike Sol or Malasaña, certain pockets of Palacio are surprisingly quiet and residential. The tradeoff is that the hills are steep, and many buildings are protected, meaning renovations can be difficult and elevators rare.
